RICED

A
  • Rest (eases pain, prevents condition worsening)
  • Ice ( helps control bleeding and eases pain)
  • Compression (helps control bleeding)
  • Elevation (helps to control bleeding and prevent pooling of excess fluid)

  • when joints are forced beyond the normal range of movement, stretching or tearing ligaments

  • pain, which may be quite intense and increase if the joint is moved
  • swelling, usually marked

Cramps

A

opposing muscles can cramp at the same times due to overuse, excessive jarring, small tear, loss of body fluids, and salts caused by excessive sweating
Signs & Symptoms:
- pain
inability to use muscles
- stiffening as it contracts and shortens
Management:
- gently stretch, apply cold pack and give fluids (DO NOT massage)
