Firefighting Flashcards
What is the firefighter’s primary and secondary duty?
Primary duty: is saving lives.
Secondary duty: extinguish fires and limit damage to aircraft, shipboard, airfield installed equipment, and/or
airfield structures
What are the key elements of a fire?
- Oxygen - 2. Heat - 3. Fuel
Explain the fire tetrahedron
Oxygen, Fuel, Temperature.
Class Alpha Fires:
Occurs in combustible materials.
Effective extinguishing agents are water (H20) or Aqueous Film Forming Foam.
Class Bravo Fires
flammable liquid
AFFF, Halon 1211, Purple K Powder (PKP), and Carbon
Dioxide.
Class Charlie Fires
Energized electrical fires
CO2, Halon, PKP and H20 in fog patterns with a minimum distance of 4 feet.
Class Delta Fires
combustible metals such as magnesium and titanium
AFFF
Aqueous Film Forming Foam, non-corrosive agent with unlimited shelf life
Water
Cool down agent, protective shield for personnel
HALON 1211
Colorless, sweet-smelling gas that inhibits the chemical chain reaction of
combustion.
Carbon Dioxide:
15 pound portable and 50-pound wheeled units
PKP
dry chemical that breaks the combustion chain.
