Aircraft handling Flashcards
What is SE used for in aircraft handling?
Service, testing, and troubleshooting aircrafts systems.
List the danger areas for aviation?
Intake, exhaust, flight controls, compressed gases, cryogenics explosives, hazmat.
State the procedure for grounding an aircraft.
Hook up grounding strap to static ground then to receptacle, hook strap to deck first
Why is it necessary to static ground the windshield?
During high flying, voltage static may build up on windshield
Initial tie-down
6 chains required. Used prior, between or after flight
Moderate weather tie-down
14 chains required. 46 to 60 knots.
Normal Weather tie-down
9 chains required. Up to 45 knots.
Heavy weather tie-down:
20 chains required. Above 60 knots
What are the mandatory hand signals regardless of aircraft type
Emergency stop - Wave-off - Hold
How much static charge in volts can build up on the windshield?
100k volts
What is the max speed when towing an aircraft
5 mph or speed of the slowest walker.
What personnel are required for an aircraft move
Move director, Brake Rider, 2 Wing Walkers, Tail Walker, and Tractor Driver.
As the tractor driver what should you avoid when towing an aircraft in cold weather
Excessive power and sudden movement.
What is the proper way to place a tie-down chain hook to a pad eye
Hook facing up
TACAN
Tactical Air Navigation
ILS
Instrument landing system
When can you approach or depart an aircraft with propellers
when the props have stopped turning.
When shouldn’t you approach or depart a rotatory aircraft
While engaging or disengaging the rotors.
How should you approach a hot brake aircraft
From FWD or AFT of the tire, never from the side
VOR
VHF Omnidirectional range
frequencies do all types of aircraft use for navigation and approach guidance
Between 108.0 & 117.95MHz.
GPS
Global Positioning System
How many satellites are used for GPS and how many orbits
24 operational satellites and 6 circular orbits.
Safety hazard areas with INTAKES
Greatest during max power. Hazard to personnel or people when there is FOD
Exhaust
high temps and velocity
Wind indicator
Indicates wind direction/velocity to pilots
Airfield rotating beacon
Identification of airport when dark
Tower visual communications
Coordination device between radar controller/control tower
