FIRE PROTECTION Flashcards
Outline the fire detection?
A, The fire protection system is provided in order to ensure detection for:
each engine fire,
right nacelle overheat (on ground only),
each cargo compartment
and toilets smoke,
avionics compartment smoke
Outline the fire protection?
Extinguishing for: each engine, cockpit, cabin and each cargo compartment, toilets waste bin
Describe the engine fire detection?
Each engine has a fire detection system equipped with identical detection loops (A & B) wired in parallel to a fire detection unit.
What is the detection principal?
It is based on resistance and capacitance. If there is only a change in resistance then the LOOP will be determined as being faulty by the fire detection control unit, FAULT light on LOOP PB.
What are you checking in the FIRE and FAULT test?
In the FIRE test you are checking the fire signals in loop A and B. The FAULT test simulates a malfunction of the loops.
What does it mean if the loops are connected in parallel?
That the circuits are connected in such a way so that if one circuit was to fail it would be backed up by the other in terms of redundancy, ie opposite to series.
Do you keep fire loop protection if with one failed loop?
A fire warning will only be detected if detected in both A and B, or one, only if the other is turned off due to a fault.
At what temperature will the NAC2 OVHT activate at, what is the maximum tailwind when in HOTEL?
170 deg C, 10 kts. The CCAS will activate.
Where are the smoke detectors?
FWD cargo compartment and AFT cargo compartment and toilet air extraction ducts. A SMOKE and CCAS will activate through the MFC.
The avionics air extraction duct is provided with a smoke detector . Smoke between the avionics compartment and extract fan activates ELEC SMK on the CAP.
What are you checking in a smoke test?
Test all 4 smoke detectors.
What does the AFT COMPT/LAV DET FANS FAULT light mean?
Fan inoperation. AIR illuminates on CAP. therefore the auxillary fan will activate.
What is SQUIB?
It is a small explosive device triggered by an electrical charge.
What are you checking in the test?
Testing the circuitry within the SQUIB, it is limited to 1A as higher than 3A will detonate.
How many agents do you have?
There are 2.
Where are they located and what is the type of agent?
Installed in the wing to junction fillet on either side of the fuselage, they are freon or halon charged with nitrogen.
