Fire Protection Flashcards

1
Q

What fire detection do the cargo compartments have? What fire protection do the cargo compartments have (ETOPS vs non-ETOPS)?

A
  • Fwd and Aft compartments each have smoke detectors in a dual loop config. Normally, both must sense smoke to cause an alert.
  • ETOPS have total fire suppression of 195 minutes (180 min to land plus add’l 15 min)
  • Non-ETOPS have fire suppression of 75 min (60 min to land and add’l 15 min)

Q

What indicates successful cargo fire test? (5 answers)

A
  • Fire warning bell sounds
  • Both Master FIRE WARN lights illuminate
  • Extinguisher lights will illuminate
  • FWD and AFT cargo fire illuminate when all detectors in the selected loop respond to test
  • Cargo fire bottle DISCH light illuminates

Q

During cruise, the cargo fire (FWD/AFT) Warning light illuminates red, master fire warn lights illuminate, and the fire warning bell sounds. What condition exists.

A
  • At least 1 detector in each loop detects smoke
  • With power failed in 1 loop, at least 1 detector on the remaining loop detects smoke

Q

With cargo fire, what indications would you expect to see after discharging the bottle?

A
  • FWD/AFT cargo fire warning light(s) can extinguish, remain illuminated, or re-illuminate over the remainder of the flight.

Q

On the ground during engine start and after pushback crew cleared off, they give you hand signals for an engine fire with no fire indications on the flight deck. What may be the actual condition?

A

Tailpipe fire

Q

What occurs if 1 of the 2 engine fire detection loops fail with the OVHT DET switch in Normal?

A

The loop is automatically deselected and the remaining loop functions as a single loop detector. There is no flight deck indication of single failure.

Q

When selecting the OVHT/FIRE during the Fire/Overheat Warning Test, you notice the FAULT Light is illuminated. What may be the problem and how do you determine in which engine the fault occurred?

A

A detection loop is inoperative. The related ENGINE FIRE WARNING switch and ENG OVERHEAT light do NOT illuminate. To determine inop loop, follow the AOM
