Automatic Flight Flashcards
What does TO/GA AFDS command when engaged for takeoff?
15 degree nose-up after lift-off until a sufficient climb rate is acquired. Then, pitch is commanded to maintain MCP speed +20kts
What does AFDS pitch command if an engine failure occurs at liftoff? After liftoff?
At lift-off (on ground): V2 or airspeed at lift-off (whichever is greater)
After lift-off:
- V2 if airspeed is <V2
- Existing airspeed, if between V2 and V2+20
- V2+20 if airspeed is greater than V2+20
When below 2,000’ RA, what N1 will the A/T command with 1 push of either TO/GA?
To the reduced go-around N1 to produce a 1,000 - 2,000 fpm climb rate
What N1 will the A/T command w/a second press of TO/GA?
Full go-around N1 limit
During a go-around, what airspeed will be commanded > pushing either TO/GA?
Target airspeed for existing flap position based on max TOW calculations
During go-around, what changes in the MCP pitch mode if you engage the A/P?
TO/GA terminates and LVL CHG engages
During approach, how do you exit the APP (VOR/LOC & G/S captured) mode?
- TO/GA
- Disengage A/P and turn off both FD
- Retune a VHF NAV receiver
What does white “A/T LIM” mean on Thrust Mode Display?
The FMC is not providing the A/T system with N1 limit values. The A/T is using a degraded N1 thrust limit from the related EEC.
What does flashing “8” or “A” mean on IAS/MACH window?
8 = overspeed symbol
A = limiting symbol, commanded speed cannot be reached
In which MCP pitch mode are SPD INTV and ALT INTV available?
VNAV
To arm VNAV on the ground, what criteria must be met?
- Valid flight plan entered
- Performance data entered and executed
- Both FD switches ON
On the ground with VNAV armed prior to takeoff, at what altitude does the VNAV become active?
400’ AGL
During a VNAV PTH descent, what speed will the FMC attempt to maintain?
Path descent uses the target speed for planning purposes only. There is no attempt to maintain target speed during the idle portion of the descent.
What is the importance of the amber FMC alert light on A/P and A/T indicators panel? What is different in the MAX?
The light indicates an MCDU or Fuel alerting message on MCDU scratchpad. In MAX, fuel alerts will also be indicated on the engine display.
What is the green rectangle around the pitch, roll, and A/P status in the FMA?
Mode change highlight symbol (green box) means mode was changed w/in the last 10”
What is the best indication to ensure an A/P is engaged after selection?
FMA indicating a changeover from FD to CMD
When in A/T engaged mode, what does “ARM” indicate on the FMA? Is min speed protection provided?
No A/T mode engaged. Thrust lever A/T servos are inhibited; the pilot can set the levers manually. Min speed protection IS provided.
At what speed during T/O roll does A/T change to THR HLD?
84 kts
When does automatic reduction to climb thrust occur when using the A/T for T/O?
When reaching the selected thrust reduction alt (shown on FMC MCDU T/O REF 2/2 page during preflight), or when the aircraft levels off in ALT HOLD or VNAV PTH
