Fire Protection Flashcards
What happens when I pull the ENG fire handle? What happens when I rotate?
When pulling, 3 valves close:
Fuel SOV
Hydraulic SOV
Bleed SOV
When rotated, bottle A (left) and/or bottle B (right) are discharged.
How many halon bottle(s) serve engine fire suppression?
2 (A & B)
What does the APU Emergency Stop button do?
Closes the APU Fuel SOV
Shuts APU down with no cooldown.
If red bar illuminates in APU EMER STOP button, a fire is detected.
What does the APU FIRE EXTING button do?
Illuminates after a fire is detected and the EMER STOP button is pressed. If not pressed, will illuminate 1 minute after a fire is detected.
When pressed,
APU Fuel SOV closes
APU Halon fire extinguisher discharges
Turns OFF the red striped bar on the APU EMER STOP button.
How many halon bottle(s) serve APU fire suppression?
1
Will the APU automatically shut down for fire? If so, when?
On the ground if a fire has been detected for 10 seconds.
When will the APU automatically shut down on the ground? In the air?
Ground: UFOSHELF
Underspeed
FADEC Critical Fault
Overspeed
Sensor Fail
High Oil Temperature
EGT Overtemperature
Low Oil Pressure
Fire
Flight: UFO
Underspeed
FADEC Critical Fault
Overspeed
How many smoke detectors are in each cargo bin?
5 total. 3 in the forward compartment and 2 in the aft.
How many halon bottle(s) serve cargo fire suppression?
Two.
High Rate Bottle:
Lasts about 60 seconds
Low Rate Bottle:
Lasts 75 minutes to give adequate time for a diversion.
How many times do I need to press the Cargo Fire Extinguisher button to discharge the low rate bottle. In flight? On the ground? Annunciated? Non-Annunciated?
Flight (Annunciated):
High-Rate: Push once
Low-Rate: Automatically after 60 seconds
Ground (Annunciated):
High-Rate: Push once
Low-Rate: Push once
Flight (Non-Annunciated):
High-Rate: Push twice
Low-Rate: Automatic after 60 seconds
Ground (Non-Annunciated):
High-Rate: Push twice
Low-Rate: Push once
What happens automatically when smoke is detected in the FWD Cargo bin? The aft?
Forward Cargo Bin:
Air circulation fan is turned off.
Forward cargo compartment ventilation outflow valve is commanded closed.
High-rate bottle is armed.
Aft Cargo Bin:
High-rate bottle is armed.
Can I fight a fire in the engine with the airplane turned off?
Yes, both bottles are powered by a DC HOT BATT BUS.
Briefly explain how a LAV SMOKE EICAS message would appear.
If smoke is detected in either lavatory:
Master WARNING light illuminates.
ECIAS WARNING message LAV SMOKE is displayed.
Alarm sounds from smoke detector in lavatory.
Flashing orange light on the respective attendant light panel.
Does the LAV SMOKE indication mean the halon bottle has discharged?
No, it just means that smoke was detected. The fire-extinguisher bottle is located on each lavatory waste container and automatically discharges when the waste container exceeds a certain temperature.
What memory items, if any, do we have to fight a fire?
We have none to directly fight a fire. There is SMOKE/FIRE/FUMES to ensure we don’t suffocate if smoke enters the cabin.
