Emergency Equipment Flashcards
What happens when the O2 mask is set to EMERG?
100% oxygen will be pumped into the mask for the purpose of providing positive pressure to force smoke or gas out of the goggles.
What happens when the O2 mask is set to 100%?
Delivers pure oxygen on every inhalation through the mask.
What happens when the O2 mask is set to NORM?
Conserves O2 by supplying to the mask a mix of cabin air and oxygen at a rate determined by the cabin altitude.
When inspecting an O2 mask, which needs to be selected?
100%
After loss of cabin pressure, sufficient oxygen is provided for all cockpit members to permit emergency descent from….
41,000’ to 10,000’ in 22 minutes or less with mask regulator on 100% and continuing in cruise at 10,000’ for 98 minutes with mask regulator on NORM mode.
When do we use the O2 mask?
When directed by a memory, QRC or QRH procedure.
What are the various colors and people that those colors provide O2 to?
Green: Enough for both pilots and jump seat.
Blue: Enough for only the pilots
Amber: Call Mx
How would you know if the O2 bottle is over pressurized?
The oxygen discharge indicator. Make sure it isn’t blown out. Usually green in color.
What is the PBE?
Portable Breathing Equipment. It is a smoke hood with its own oxygen source used to protect against toxic fumes when fighting fires.
What color should the humidity indicator on the PBE be?
Blue. Broken seals or a pink indicator requires a call to Mx.
How long will the PBE supply oxygen?
At least 15 minutes.
What are the different classes of fires?
Class A: paper, wood, textiles, and plastics.
Class B: Flammable liquids
Class C: “live” electrical equipment
What type of fire extinguisher is in the flight deck?
Halon
What is an FAK?
First Aid Kit
How many FAKs are on board, and what should you do if a seal is found broken?
The FA must notify the PIC, who notifies maintenance. The FA writes a note “Required items missing from FAK”, then submits an IOR. Can be MEL’d as “incomplete”, but must be replaced within 1 flight.
