Why do you think the system is designed to automatically
turn off the recirculation fan and the ventilation outflow valve
to the cargo compartment when smoke is detected?

A
Cargo fire bottle deployment in-flight no smoke indication
1. First push = high rate bottle arms
2. Second push = high rate fires, low rate arms, then fires after 60
secs
3. Third push = low rate fires immediately rather than after 60
secs

14

3. Third push = low rate fires

17
Q
What is the difference between the high-rate bottle and the low-rate
bottle? (cargo compartment)
A
What is the difference between the high-rate bottle and the low-rate
bottle? (cargo compartment)
-High-rate bottle saturates the compartment immediately (13lbs Halon 1301)
-Low-rate bottle maintains saturation over 60 mins(22lbs Halon 1301)

18
Q
Can cargo extinguishing be used if no smoke is detected?
A
Can cargo extinguishing be used if no smoke is detected?
Yes. The high rate bottle extinguishing button must be pushed twice: -
once to arm the bottle and once to discharge the bottle. -The low-rate
bottle automatically discharges after one minute if in flight.
