Q

OVHT DET Switch

A

NORMAL:

  • detection loop A and B are active (makes both loops agree before overheat or fire alarm condition operates.

FIRE WARNING BELL CUTOUT Switch

A
  • Push:
    • Extinguishes BOTH MASTER FIRE WARN lights
    • silences fire warning bell
    • silences remote APU fire warning horn and the flashing APU light to go steady (on ground only)
    • resets systems for addn warnings

EXTINGUISHER TEST Switch

A
  • Spring-loaded to center

1 OR 2: Squib Test

  • tests bottle discharge circuit continuity for all 3 extinguisher bottles
  • 1 - Test FORWARD squib on the L & R bottle (#1 engine) AND the single APU squib
  • 2 - tests REAR squib on the L & R bottle (#2 engine) AND the single APU squib

SQUIB TEST LIGHTS:

  • Illuminated (green) - discharge circuits are normal
  • green lights have a push to test feature

Q

FAULT / INOP and OVHT/FIRE TEST Switch

A
  • switch allows you to run 2 tests
    • 1 test if for fault detection
    • the other is for fire detector loops
  • verify all 3 fire handles are DOWN and OVH DET in NORMAL
  • spring loaded to center

FAULT / INOP TEST:

  • tests fault detection circuits for both engines and apu
  • look for 5 amber lights
  • look for [FAULT] light to illuminate - if it doesnt the monitoring system is INOP
  • do not operate the apu if the [APU DET INOP] light FAILS to ILLUMINATE

OVHT / FIRE TEST Switch:

  • test overheat and fire detection loops on both engines, APU and the fire detector in the wheel well
  • looking for either 10 or 11 lights (the wheel well light is AC powered so that is the 11th light as long as AC power is on the aircraft)
  • Get 10 or 11 lights, alarm bell, APU horn (in wheel well), APU fire warning light flashing in the wheel well
  • this test does NOT shut down the APU if its running

Q

ENG FIRE Switch

What happens when you pull the fire handle? (1sp)

A

[1sp: SAFEHIDE

S - Silences Bell

A - Arms squibs

F - fuel/spar shutoff valve closes

E (electrics) - Generator trips off

H - Hyd shutoff valve closes (eng driven pump)

I - Inhibit HYD low pressure light (eng driven pump)

D - Disables thrust reversers

E - Eng bleed valve closes]

Illuminated (Red):

  • indicates fire in related engine
  • unlocks related engine fire switch (normally locked)
  • Master Fire Warning lights illuminate and fire bell sounds

IN: normal position, mechanically locked if no fire signal

Indications of an Engine Fire:

  • Both FIRE WARN lights
  • fire bell
  • related ENG FIRE Switch
  • related ENG OVERHEAT light illuminates

Pulling Fire Switch:

  • allow rotation for bottle
  • arms one squib on each bottle
  • GEN trips OFF
  • Closes:
    • SPAR FUEL SOV
    • HYD EDP SOV and deactivates LOW PRESSURE light
    • Bleed Air Valve (temp loss of wing ai to affected wing) and pack valve closes due to no air
  • Thrust Reverser Deactivated

Rotating Fire Switch:

  • fires a squib (discharging the agent (halon) into related engine)
  • illuminates [BOTTLE DISCHARGE] light
  • Eng 1: Clockwise turn - fires front squib on the R Bottle
  • Eng 1: CCW turn - fires front squib on the L Bottle
  • Eng 2: CW turn - fires REAR squib on R bottle
  • Eng 2: CCW turn - fires REAR squib on L bottle

Q

APU FIRE Switch

A

Illuminated (Red):

  • indicates Fire in APU
  • unlocks the APU fire switch

Indications of APU Fire:

  • Master FIRE WARN lights
  • Fire Bell
  • APU fire horn (in main wheel well on the ground)
  • APU fire warning light flashes (wheel well)

IN: normal position, mechanically locked if no fire signal

UP:

  • arms APU squibs
  • Closes:
    • Fuel shutoff valve
    • APU bleed air valve
    • APU inlet door
  • Trips Generator
  • allows APU fire switch to rotate
  • Memory aid: 2 SOVs and BAD
    • Fuel & APU Bleed air SOV
    • B - Breaker A - Arms squib D - inlet Door

Rotate Left or Right: discharges APU fire bottle

Q

WHEEL WELL FIRE WARNING Light

Scenario.

we but the battery on we try to do the fire test, when we do the fire test will we see a wheel well light? (1sp)

A

[1sp: no because its powered by ac transfer bu]

Illuminated (Red):

  • indicates a fire in the MAIN gear wheel well
  • Master Fire Warn and bell
  • single loop system in the WW
  • requires normal AC power (AC Transfer Bus)

Q

FAULT Light

A

Illuminated (Amber):

  • if OVHT detectors are in NORMAL - both detector loops have failed
  • if in A or B - selected loop has failed
  • if in Normal and single loop fails there is NO indication

* MC and OVHT/DET LIGHTS DO NOT ILLUMINATE (only amber that doesnt set it off)

  • 2 SYSTEMS:
    • FAULT MONITORING
      • see above - loops
    • FAULT DETECTION
      • checks the circuits - via the test

Q

APU DET INOP Light

A

Illuminated (Amber):

  • APU detector Loop has FAILED (will trigger MC and OVHT/DET lights)
  • if you allowed the APU to run in this condition, an APU fire would not be detectable and the APU would continue to run.
