FinalExamOutline Flashcards
What diseases present pathognomonic lesions and what are they?
Swine: Acute Erysipelas, Diamond shape dermal lesions everywhere in the body
Necrotic Enteritis:
Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS)
Viralinfection: Arteriviridae group
Two phases: 1-Reproductive failure 2-Respiratory disease postweaning
Stillborn, mummified fetuses, weak born piglets as much as 35 %
Anorexia and agalactia: lack of milk production
Piglets might be born viremic: leads to phase 2
Prevention is culling
Porcine Parvovirus is similimar to?
PRRS due to mummified fetus and infertility
Prevention is vaccination
Leptospirosis Serovars
L. Pamona and L. Bratislava
Pigs maintenance host: L. Bratislava, infertility most common, rarely acute
L. Pamona: can see acute in younger pigs more common, fever, anorexia, hemolytic anemia.
Erysipelas Acute/chronic
Pathogen: Streptococcus pyogenes
Acute: mostly seen in grower/finisher pigs, may find pigs dead without previous signs, depressed, febrile, immobile
Chronic: Arthritis
Vegetative endocarditis, valve plaque, embolisms, cardiac insufficiency
Swine influenza
Can spread through the herd in 1-3 days Depression, fever, anorexia, coughing, nasal discharge, dyspnea, weakness. Low mortality 1-4% Loss due to delay in market weight gain Vaccines available
Atrophic Rhinitis
Pasturella multicocida and Bordatella bronchiseptica
Nonprogressive: Just B. bronchiseptica
Progressive: combiantion B. bronchiseptica and P. multicocida
Aujesky Disease AKA pseudorabies
Pigs are the only reservoir host
Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea
Pigs are the only host
