  • Joint attack saw Boulogne taken and small pension (like father)
  • Charles sought peace behind H’s back
  • Attack on Isle of Wight saw Mary Rose sink (June 1546 Treaty of Ardes saw Boulogne for 8 years and pension
  • Forced loans and taxes caused £650k burden, debasement over 3 years ruined currency (earnt £360k) and sale of royal land earnt £800k
  • Surrey’s failure to take fortress led to Edward Seymour replacing him

  • Surry execution and Gardiner land dispute led to Seymour and Dudley popularity with H rising
