Final Set Of Notes Flashcards
What is counterbalancing?
Process used in repeated measures where designed to eliminate order effects - where conditions A, B and C would be presented in a different sequence to different groups of participants.
Confounding variable.
Variable that has a systematic or measurable on the DV and have acted as an additional unwanted variable.
Amyloid plaques.
Proteins that form along the axon terminals which interfere with communication between neurons.
Neurofibrillary tangles.
A build-up of protein within the neuron which leads to the death of brain cells.
Adults generally spend the most time in which stage of sleep?
1 and 2 NREM
What brainwave patterns do microsleeps show?
Light NREM sleep.
Which schedule of reinforcement is a token economy characteristic of?
Partial and continuous.
What is a difference between OC and OL?
- Consequence is applied directly to learner in OC.
- Consequence is applied indirectly to learner in OL.
Define reorganisation.
A reordering of neural connections so that an existing part of the brain adopts a new function.
Identify two similarities between rerouting and reorganisation.
- Both occur as a result of adaptive plasticity.
- Both can occur as a result of brain injury.
Identify one difference between rerouting and reorganisation.
- Rerouting is when the neural transmission goes around the damaged area of the brain.
- Reorganisation is where another part of the brain takes over the function of the damaged area.
Define learning.
A relatively permanent change in behaviour due to experience.
