Stage II, III or IV and residual pocketing >6mm
- initial non-surgical management in practice
- may be accepted for referral
Grade C or stage IV and pocketing >6mm
- lifestyle modification in practice
- referral for periodontal care
What is needed in the formal referral letter to specialist?

- diagnosis + classification
- reason for referral
- details of previous tx
- relevant radiographs / charts
- clinical images
What should be included in tx prescription for the hygienist referral?
- tx to be carried out by hygienist
Step 1, 2 etc
Discuss risk factors
Supragingival / subgingival etc
Use LA as required. Lidocaine 2% 1:80k epinephrine, max carts 4 per visit (2.2ml)
- type, strength, name
- maximum doseage
- frequency
- route administration
