Have them put a body puzzle together,
Have them identify body parts on me or the puzzle.

Grading up from here may include:

  • Having client identify body parts on the contralateral side [crossing midline],
  • Have them identify parts on the affected side,
  • Have them do something bilateral (eg. march with both feet, clap hands) where both sides need to work together.

Grading Ideational Apraxia?

Inability to carry out motor plan sequence

A

Start with very simple motor sequences [eg. pouring, clapping] and evolve to more complex motor sequences like feeding [requires reach, scoop, target mouth, return to plate].

When they start to perseverate, or get the sequence wrong provide physical or verbal cuing to correct and move onto next motion.

Grade down further, by asking them to only do part of the task.
