Grading Body Scheme Disorder?
lack of awareness of the body
Have client identify body parts on unaffected side;
Have them put a body puzzle together,
Have them identify body parts on me or the puzzle.
Grading up from here may include:
- Having client identify body parts on the contralateral side [crossing midline],
- Have them identify parts on the affected side,
- Have them do something bilateral (eg. march with both feet, clap hands) where both sides need to work together.
Grading Topographical Orientation?
unaware of ones environment & orientation
Have client get around his room/unit,
Grade up with increasing the area in which to get around…to the building/community;
Grade down by naming and describing landmarks along the way, writing them down or marking them on a map.
Grading Ideational Apraxia?
Inability to carry out motor plan sequence
Start with very simple motor sequences [eg. pouring, clapping] and evolve to more complex motor sequences like feeding [requires reach, scoop, target mouth, return to plate].
When they start to perseverate, or get the sequence wrong provide physical or verbal cuing to correct and move onto next motion.
Grade down further, by asking them to only do part of the task.
Grading Ideomotor Apraxia?
Inability to carry out motor plan
Have client attempt to complete task on command,
When unable to initiate task, verbally or physically cue them to assist with the start of the task.
To grade down, start with simple movements, start with movements that are initiated to a beat or a count.
Assessment with the strongest ecological validity?
Performance based
Visual Agnosia?
Pattern recognition problem
Cannot recognize an object
Personal Neglect vs Spatial Neglect?
Personal neglect = will not SELF care on one side
Spatial neglect = will ignore one side of the WORLD within arms reach
Purposeful activity to treat Environmental Neglect?
Scan on affected side, beyond arms reach
Eg) Looking for a clock on the wall
Personal Neglect signs?
One sided injuries
Pushing to other side

They know each side seperately, but if touch together strong side dominates
