Reasons for use of atomic bomb on Japan

A

Saved American lives
-Invasion of Japan, similar to D-Day would have similar results in casualties on both sides if not worse.

  1. Japanese were instructed and willing to fight to the death. The Japanese army still had over 2 1/2 million men
  2. All alternative plans to the bomb would have prolonged the war and incurred significantly more casualties on both sides
