Set up an organization called the Cheka (secret police)
Leon Trotsky (role was to turn the red army into an effective fighting force)
Lenin sets up the communist government in 1922
Lenin established a new economic policy (NEP)
Under this NEP, Lenin allowed some capitalist ventures to take place
After Lenin dies, Stalin took over in 1954
