Filtration Flashcards
Where does filtration occur
At the renal corpuscle
How does blood pressure help with Filtration?
- forces water and dissolved solutes out of glomerular capillaries into capsular space
-produces protein-free solution(filtrate) similar to blood plasma
What are the 3 functions of the renal tubule?
- Reabsorb useful organic nutrients that enter filtrate
- Reabsorb more than 90 percent of water in filtrate
- Secrete waste products that failed to enter renal corpuscke through filtration at glomerulus
Proximal convoluted tubule function
Reabsorption of water, ions, and all organic nutrients
Distal convoluted tubule function
Secretion of ions, acids, drugs and toxins
Variable reabsorbptoon of water, sodium ions, calcium ions(under hormonal control)
Renal corpiscle function
Production of filtrate
This makes up 85 percent of all nephrons
Cortical nephrons
Where are the cortical nephrons located?
Mostly within superficial cortex of kidney
How long is the nephron loop?
It is relatively short
The efferent atteriole in the cortical nephron delivers
A network of peritubular capillaries
