- What happens when you choose LOOKED UP VALUE?
The LOOKUP FOR FIELD ‘STREET ADDRESS” pops up.
- What are the FIRST TWO options to choose in the LOOKUP FOR FIELD “STREET ADDRESS”?
a. Starting With Table
b. Lookup From Related Table.
- What option should you choose in the STARTING WITH TABLE pop up menu?
Think about what the CONTEXT is. You’re defining a field in the INVOICES TABLE, so that’s the field’s CONTEXT. In this case, the CONTEXT is the INVOICES table
- What choice should you make in the LOOKUP FROM RELATED TABLE pop up menu?
In this case, you choose the CUSTOMERS table, because that’s where the ADDRESS field resides.
- As soon as you choose CUSTOMERS in the LOOKUP FROM RELATED TABLE pop up menu, what happens?
the COPY VALUE FROM FIELD list (this is the third option in the LOOKUP FOR FIELD “STREET ADDRESS” dialog box) is populated with ALL THE FIELDS in the CUSTOMERS TABLE.
- You choose the ADDRESS field AND turn OFF the “DON’T COPY CONTENTS IF EMPTY.” What does this do?
When you turn off “DON’T COPY CONTENTS IF EMPTY,” FileMaker COPIES THE EMPTY VALUE, wiping out data in the LOOKUP field. If you turn this option ON instead, FileMaker leaves the LOOKUP field UNTOUCHED- ITS VALUE BEFORE THE LOOKUP REMAINS IN PLACE.
- The LAST option in the LOOKUP FOR FIELD “STREET ADDRESS” is “IF NO EXACT MATCH, THEN:” What does this do?
It gives the FOUR options on what to show if there is no exact match a. DO NOT COPY
b. COPY NEXT LOWER VALUE
c. COPY NEXT HIGHER VALUE
d. USE.
- Which of the four options under IF NO EXACT MATCH, THEN should you choose?
USE, and leave the associated text box empty. I there is no customer record, the address field should be blank.
- What if under IF NO EXACT MATCH, THEN, you choose the DO NOT COPY option?
Then, any existing address, for a different customer, perhaps, is left in the field.
