Filemaker Pro 9 08 Flashcards
- p 111. VALIDATION OPTIONS. Auto Enter options tell FM to enter some things for you; VALIDATION OPTIONS tell FM:
What NOT TO LET YOU put on a field. YOU decide what KIND of info should go in a field, and FM warns you when you enter something that does not look like it belongs there, such as entering a NAME in a ZIP CODE field.
- Normally, you want to validate ONLY what you put on a field when:
you are typing in BROWSE MODE.
- When would you choose “VALIDATE DATA IN THIS FIELD: ALWAYS”?
If you IMPORT data or enter information from a script, FM COMPLETELY BYPASSES THE VALIDATION STEP.
This option forces FM to ALWAYS perform the validation, EVEN DURING AUTOMATED PROCESSES.
- If, during data validation, you enter data that does not look right, FM WARNS you, but does not STOP you from entering the WRONG data.
What STOPS you from doing it?
UNCHECK the “ALLOW USER TO OVERRIDE DURING DATA ENTRY” option, and FM REFUSES to accept invalid data.
- What does the “VALIDATE BY CALCULATION” option do?
it offers a COMPLETELY FLEXIBLE WAY to describe exactly what you’re looking for, and it does it by performing calculations.
- What are the Validation “REQUIRE”options?
a. STRICT DATA TYPE
b. NOT EMPTY
c. UNIQUE VALUE
d. EXISTING VALUE
e. MEMBER OF VALUE LIST
f. IN RANGE
g. VALIDATED BY CALCULATION
h. MAXIMUM NUMBER OF CHARACTERS.
