Filemaker Pro 9 06 Flashcards
- p 105. ADVANCED FIELD OPTIONS. What are the CREATION values?
See fig 3-9
When a record is first CREATED, fm can record the DATE, TIME, OR TIMESTAMP at the MOMENT OF CREATION.
- Why would you want to use a CREATION VALUE?
See fig 3-8
To keep track of the DATE you first added each record, so you can tell how long you’ve been working with someone. You can use this information in FIND mode to seek new customers, old customers, customers you met on a tuesday, etc.
- When would you turn on the PROHIBIT MODIFICATION OF VALUE DURING DATA ENTRY option?
Keep in mind that the Auto Enter options are for each individual field.
See fig 3-8
An example is when you have a CREATION VALUE specified that should never change.
- How do you keep track of when you last changed the data?
AUTO ENTER–>MODIFICATION
- Why would you want to use the AUTO ENTER–>MODIFICATION?
Say you want to adjust an INTEREST RATE in you db, you can tell how long ago the change occurred.
- When do the MODIFICATION SETTINGS affect the value of the field?
AFTER you create the record. If you don’t select the PROHIBIT MODIFICATION OF VALUE DURING DATA ENTRY, the MODIFICATION setting will override whatever you type in your MODIFICATION TIMESTAMP field, since the TIMESTAMP occurs when you commit the record.
- Why are you able to use PROHIBIT MODIFICATION OF VALUE DURING DATA ENTRY on a MODIFICATION FIELD?
FM’s AUTO ENTER mechanism IS NOT CONSIDERED DATA ENTRY.
- When else can records change outside of data entry?
When you are importing records or setting fields via a script.
- What are the MODIFICATION settings?
This setting keeps track of when a record was changed
