A
- when faced with threat - amygdala is mobilised
- Amygdala associates emotions with sensory signals
- Sends a distress signal to hypothalamus
- Hypothalamus communicates to the rest of the body through the sympathetic nervous system

Acute - immediate stress
Chronic - ongoing stress

Response to acute stress
A
- SNS is triggered - prepares body for fight or flight
2. Sends signal to adrenal medulla which releases adrenaline

- Hypothalamus - releases corticotrophin releasing hormone
- pituitary glands - produce and release ACTH to target adrenal glands
- Adrenal - releases cortisol to cause stress response triggers
- feedback - able to regulate it all
