Field Investigation Flashcards
What is a hypothesis
It is an educated guess or prediction
What was our hypothesis for the investigation
We guessed the surface with the fastest infiltration rate would be grass
Which sites did you collect data at and why
We went to broad field to check the infiltration rates of grass and the concrete area to see the infiltration rate of concrete
How did you collect data? Explain your process
We poured water slowly into a tube then we timed how fast it would infiltrate
What is the difference between primary and secondary data
Primary you collect yourself and secondary someone collects for you
What secondary data did we look at and why
We looked at twitter posts and newspaper reports
Which site had the fastest rates of infiltration and why
Concrete had the fastest as the ground wasn’t flat so it spilled out
Which site had the slowest rates of infiltration and why
Grass was the slowest especially where people were playing football
How did we present our data
In a bar graph
Why was a bar graph a suitable way to present our data
As it’s easy
It can show lots of data
It’s easy to understand
What was our conclusion about flood risk at RGS
We concluded RGS would not flood. However you could have a mini flood
How confident are we in that conclusion- what factors may affect our confidence
I am not that confident as we only did it for one day and our cylinder was very bad for concrete as the water spilled through it
How can the reliability of the data be improved
We should’ve done it multiple times and with better equipment
Suggest one way the investigation could be improved
We should’ve done it multiple times
