Deposition Flashcards
1
Q
What is deposition
A
Deposition is when a river can no longer hold the amount of sediment it has eroded and transported so it drops it.
2
Q
How does velocity impact deposition
A
As material is transported downstream, the river’s velocity will decrease as a result deposition occurs
3
Q
Give reasons for why rivers slow down and deposit materials
A
The volume of water falls
The amount of eroded material increases
The water is shallower eg on the inside of a bend
The river reaches its mouth
4
Q
Where does deposition occur and why?
A
Inside of a river bend - because the water is shallower
Beaches- eroded material has been transported and deposited by the sea.
