Describe the term ‘balanced diet’.
A balanced diet means eating a variety of foods from all the different groups of food in the correct proportions.
Why is it important to have a balanced diet.
Without a balanced diet we will not get all of the nutrients we need so we may become ill or lack the energy we need for work and exercise.
What are the 7 factors of a balanced diet?
Carbohydrates, Proteins, Fats, Vitamins, Minerals, Fibre and Water

What is the definition of obese?
A person who is very ovferfat.
What is the difference between overfat and overweight?
Overfat is having more body fat than you should have and overweight is having excess weight. This could be in the due to high muscle mass or larger bone density.
What is optimum weight?
It is a person’s most favourable weight
How is blood re-directed from the gut to the working muscles?
The arteries carrying the blood to the gut vasoconstrict, this reduces the amount of blood travelling to them. Meanwhile, the arteries travelling to the working muscles vasodilate allowing more blood to travel to them and therefore more oxygen.
How does height affect optimum weight?
Generally the taller you are the more you weigh.
How does gender affect optimum weight?
Generally men are said to have a higher percentage of muscles and bones and therefore weigh more.
