What is the lie of the baby?
The relationship of the long axis of the fetus with the long axis of the uterus e.g. longitudinal, transverse, oblique

What is the position of the baby referring to?
The relation of the presenting part of the fetus to the six points on the maternal pelvis e.g. left occiput anterior (LOA) – most common, left occiput posterior
What is the descent of the baby referring to ?
How palpable the fatal head is above the pelvic brim measured in fifths e.g. 2/5 palpable above the pelvic brim
What is attitude of the baby referring to?
The relationship of the fetal head and limbs to the rest of the body e.g. fully flexed, deflexed, partially extended, completely extended
What is engagement of the baby referring to?
Is when the widest presenting transverse diameter has passed through the pelvic brim
What is the presenting part?
The part of the fetus that lies over the cervical os
What is the normal range for the fetal heart rate?
110 - 160 BPM
What is the normal range for fetal temperature?
36.5 - 37.5 degrees celsius
What is the normal fetal respiration rate?
40 - 60 breaths per minute
What are the symptoms of thrush?
In the mouth it can appear as thick, white coating on the tongue, gums, or cheeks that do not go away after feeding
In the groin/buttocks it can appear as small, raised, red lumps
What is the treatment for oral thrush?
Neonate - 1ml of nystatin liquid 100,000 U/mL applied to tongue four times daily after breastfeeding for 6 days
Mother - needs to be treated in case they pass it back and forth to one another. Miconazole 2% cream applied after breastfeeding twice daily for 10 - 14 days
