Describe the 6 steps of fertilisation in a plant.

1. Pollen grain lands on the ripe stigma and produces a pollen tube through the style to the ovary
2. The male nucleus travels to the ovary and to the ovule inside
3. Fertilisation is the fusion of the male sex cell and the female sex cell to produce a single cell that grows into a new plant
4. Ovule develops into a seed which begins to grow. If the ovary contains many ovules, each will have to be fertilised by a different pollen nucleus
5. The petals and stamens fall away
6. The ovary forms the fruit as the seed grows by mitosis
