Define the 7 characteristics of living things
Movement - all living things move though it may be slow and difficult to see
Respiration - this is the release of energy from food substances in all living cells
Sensitivity - all living things can sense and respond to stimuli such as light, temperature and gravity
Growth - this is the permanent increase in cell number
Reproduction - being able to produce offspring
Excretion - being able to get rid of waste products
Nutrition - take in minerals from their surroundings and use for growth or to provide energy

Define binomial nomenclature
Naming of species using 2 words - the first beginning with a capital letter and know as genus (of the organism) and the second word with a lowercase letter and defines the species of the organism
Define dichotomous key
Method used to identify a species by answering a series of questions based on contrasting features
“Dichotomous” means divided into 2 parts, hence the dichotomous keys always present two choices based on the key characteristics of the organism in each step.
