Therapeutic Class: Antilipemic
Action
Increase hepatic elimination of cholesterol as bile salts
Decrease synthesis of fatty acids and triglycerides.
Promotes the catabolism of larger, less dense LDL with a high-binding affinity for cellular LDL receptors.
Use
Treat and prevent hypercholesterolemia and hyperlipidemia
Complications
DVT
Cirrhosis
Steven-Johnson Syndrome
Hepatitis
Acute renal failure

Gallbladder disease
Hypersensitive
Severe hepatic impairment
Unexplained persistent elevated liver enzymes

Follow provider instructions about diet and exercise
Swallow whole
Protect drug from moisture and light
Follow up with labs
Tell provider about unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, weakness.
Monitor urine, stool, skin for changes in color.
Wear sunscreen
