Pharmacologic Class: Fusion Inhibitor
Therapeutic Class: Antiretroviral
INJECTION (SUBQ)
Action
Interferes with entry of HIV-1 into cells to inhibit fusion of cellular membrane with the virus.
Binds to the viral envelope glycoprotein and preventing the conformational changes required for fusion.
Use
To treat HIV-1 infection in treatment experienced patients w/ HIV-1 replication despite ongoing therapy.

Gullian-Barre Syndrome
Suicidal Ideations
Hypotension
Hepatitis
Renal Failure
Sepsis
Hypersensitive Reaction
Contraindications/Precautions
Hypersensitive to Enfuvirtide or its components.

None reported by manufacturer
Client Education
Will be used in conjunction with other antiretroviral agents.
How to use a needle and give themselves SUBQ injections.
Rotate injection sites in abdomen, front of thigh, and upper arm.
How to store medication (refrigerator, used within 25hrs).
S/S of infection at injection site.
