Area in the anterior thigh
What are the three borders of the triangle?
- Superior border
- Lateral border
- Medial border
What is the superior border formed by?
Inguinal ligament
Where does the inguinal ligament run?
From the anterior superior iliac spine to the pubic tubercle
What is the lateral border formed by?
Medial border of the sartorius muscle
What is the medial border formed by?
Medial border of the adductor longus
What forms the roof of the triangle?
Fasica lata
What forms the base of the triangle?
- Pectineus
- Iliopsoas
- Adductor longus
What does the inguinal ligament act as?
A flexor retinaculum
What does the flexor retinaculum do?
Support the contents of the femoral triangle during flexion at the hip
What are some of the main contents of the femoral triangle?
- Femoral nerve
- Femoral artery
- Femoral vein
- Femoral canal
What does the femoral nerve innervate?
- Anterior component of the thigh
2. Sensory branches of the leg and foot
What does the femoral artery supply?
Majority of arterial supply to the lower limb
What drains into the femoral vein in the triangle?
The great saphenous vein
What is in the femoral canal?
Deep lymph nodes and vessels
