Femoral and Obturator Nerve Flashcards
Pathway of femoral nerve
Originates from L2-4
Emerges lateral to lower part of psoas major
Travel through the pelvis between psoas major and iliacus
Innervates iliacus
Moves laterally, around the inguinal ligament to enter the the thigh
Splits into several branches to supply
- anterior compartment thigh muscles
- hip and knee joint
-skin of anterior/medial thigh
Terminal brach is saphenous nerve, which supplies skin of medial leg and foot.
Pathway of obturator nerve (until division)
Originates from L2-4
Emerges medial to psoas major
Passes through pelvis, moves through obturator foramen
Enters medial thigh via obturator canal
Divides into anterior and posterior branches
Anterior Division of Obturator nerve supplies….
Supplies
- adductor longus/brevis + gracilis
- hip joint
- skin of middle medial thigh
Posterior Division of Obturator nerve supplies…
Supplies
- Adductor magnus (hamstring part)
- Obturator Externus
- Knee joint
