feminism Flashcards
what is the feminist view on education?
Feminists agree that the education system transmits and upholds patriarchal values.
- Liberal feminists believe education now centres on women and girls, and we should celebrate the progress that has been made.
- Radical feminists believe that education still centres on boys despite advancements in girls’ education.
liberal feminist views of education
Celebrate the progress made so far in improving girls’ achievement.
They essentially believe that the ‘Future is now Female’ and now that girls are outperforming boys in education, it is only a matter of time until more women move into politics and higher paid, managerial roles at work
radical feminist views of education
Education is still fundamentally patriarchal and continues to reinforce traditional gender norms and to disadvantage girls
