Radical Feminist- all female households are the only alternative to the heterosexual family.

Liberal feminist- separatism is unlikely to work due to heterosexual attractions - conventional nuclear family will never disappear.
Delphy and Leonard
Argue that most decisionmaking in a household is done by men, who have control over money and resources, whilst most housework is done by women. They argue that the amount of time women spent on domestic labour hadn’t changed over the 20th century.

Marxist- women are ‘takers of shit’- women absorb the anger that would otherwise be focused on capitalism, this increases DV.
Oakley (1985)
Distinguished between sex and gender.
Found that middle class men were more involved in both housework and childcare than working class men. Both middle and working class men were more involved in childcare than in other sorts of housework.
Dobash & Dobash (1971)
Used unstructured interviews along with police reports to gain insight into domestic violence. Found DV to be very common.
