4-8 gm
Each ovary lies on
on the side of the pelvis in the ovarian fossa, on each side of the uterus
Define ovaries
It is a sexual gland
responsible for production
of ova and female sex
hormones; estrogen and

connects its upper end to the side
wall of the pelvis
ovarian ligament connects the ovary to
connects the ovary to the side of the uterus
Each ovary is covered by thin epithelial layer called
tunica albuginea
Each ovary is filled with
multiple small immature follicles (primordial & secondary follicles)
the oocyte is embedded in
primordial & secondary follicles
Maturation of primordial n secondary follicles takes
place at
at the age of puberty between 12-16 years old
The mature follicle (Graffian follicle) is about
12mm in diameter
The mature follicle (Graffian follicle) contains
ovum liable for
fertilization and surrounded
by hormonal secreting cells
(estrogen and progesterone).
