Stimulate the production of oestrogen and progesterone
Oogenesis:
- DIPLOID cells in the OVARY undergo MEIOSIS to form numerous FOLLICLES at the beginning of PUBERTY under the influence of FSH
- ONE cell inside the follicle enlarges and undergoes the rest of meiosis
- FOUR cells are produced, only ONE survives and matures to become the OVUM
- this occurs in a monthly cycle
