- repeats every 21-40 days
- ovarian and uterine

Ovarian Cycle
A
-maturation of follicle, ovulation, corpus lutéine development and degeneration

Uterine Cycle
A
-changes in endometrium:
> initial thickening of the endometrium, shedding of endometrium if pregnancy doesn’t occur

> FSH > mature follicle > produce estrogen > follicle bursts and eggs ovulate > corpus luteum > produces progesterone > either AP shuts off FSH and LH, or turns off ovulation

Hormones produced from the placenta
A
- produces hormones that maintain pregnancy, others that help deliver the baby
- produces human chronic gonadotropin (hCG) with estrogen, progesterone, etc.
- human placental lactogen (hPL) prepares breasts for lactation
- relaxin relaxes pelvic ligaments and pubic symphysis for childbirth
