A

A
  • 2 large rounded folds of fatty tissue covered by skin and meet anteriorly at mons veneris. Pass backwards towards the anus become flatter and join perineal body.
  • Inner aspects are smooth with numerous sweat and sebaceous glands
  • Outer aspect covered with hair after puberty

  • 2 thin folds of skin lying longitudinally within the labia majora
  • enclose the vestibule
  • divide anteriorly to enclose the clitoris
  • upper folds known as prepuce
  • lower folds known as frenulum
  • fuse posteriorly to form the fourchette

  • Inner layer (rugae), allows stretching
  • Vascular layer of elastic and connective tissue
  • Involuntary muscle layer consisting of longitudinal fibres and inner circular fibres
