A
-pad of fatty tissue lying over pubic bone

A
- 2 large rounded folds of fatty tissue covered by skin and meet anteriorly at mons veneris. Pass backwards towards the anus become flatter and join perineal body.
- Inner aspects are smooth with numerous sweat and sebaceous glands
- Outer aspect covered with hair after puberty

A
- 2 thin folds of skin lying longitudinally within the labia majora
- enclose the vestibule
- divide anteriorly to enclose the clitoris
- upper folds known as prepuce
- lower folds known as frenulum
- fuse posteriorly to form the fourchette

A
- fibro muscular canal running upwards and backwards parallel to the pelvic plane from the vulva to the uterus
- surrounded and supported by pelvic floor muscles

The Vagina - structure
A
- the walls have 4 layers
- Inner layer (rugae), allows stretching
- Vascular layer of elastic and connective tissue
- Involuntary muscle layer consisting of longitudinal fibres and inner circular fibres
- Outer layer of connective tissue, carries blood vessels, lymphatics and nerves
