What organs are internal?
The vagina, the uterus, 2 uterine tubes and 2 ovaries
What is the Bartholin’s glands?
The two small glands that open on either side of the vaginal orifice. They secrete mucus which lubricates the vaginal opening.
What’s the external part of the clitoris?
Clitoral glans. Densely filled with nerve endings.
What is the internal part of the clitoris?
Extremely vascular, erectile tissue
What are the three functions of the vagina?
Passage and escape of menstrual blood, Receives the penis and ejaculate during intercourse, Provides exit of fetus during birth.
What’s the pelvic fascia?
Connective tissue surrounding the vagina.
What is the function of the uterine tubes?
Propels the ovum towards the uterus, receives the spermatozoa as they travels upwards and provides a site for fertilisation.
What do the ovaries produce?
Oocytes, hormones, oestrogen and progesterone.
List 3 secondary sex characteristics in females?
- Maturation of uterus, uterine tubes and ovaries
- Development and enlargement of breasts
- Growth of pubic and axillary hair
- Increase in height
- Widening of the pelvis
- Increased fat deposition
What is menarche?
The onset of menstruation
What’s Oogenesis?
The maturation of ova.
What happens on day 14 of the menstruation cycle?
Follicle ruptures releasing ovum it is then caught on film briar at the end of interline tube, it is then propelled by cilia along uterine tube towards the uterus.
