Type of eating disorder where the person avoids/restricts food intake based on either: texture, color, smell, or taste
-similar to anorexia nervosa in that they both restrict food intake HOWEVER with this eating disorder the person does not feel any distress about their body weight or shape
Avoidant/Restrictive Food intake disorder
This type of eating disorder, the person feels intense stress about their weight and/or shape
- fear of gaining weight
- two types: restrictive type or binge/purging type
Anorexia nervosa
Subtype of anorexia nervosa in that: 3 months or longer
- intense fear and distress of gaining weight and has a low body weight
- dieting, fasting, or exercising excessively
Anorexia nervosa restrictive type
Subtype of anorexia nervosa in that: the person experiences episodes of binge/purging behaviors
- over eats, eats quickly in a short amount of time; feels a lack of control when eating
- low body weight
Anorexia nervosa binge/purging type
Type of eating disorder that the person has binge eating episodes followed by compensatory behaviors: vomiting, exercising, or laxatives to prevent weight gain
-last 1x week for 3 months

Bulimia Nervosa
Type of eating disorder that the person has binge eating episodes BUT does not have compensatory behavior after the binges
- binge causes distress; eats when not hungry, eating alone, eating fast, feels ashamed and/or depressed after eating
- last 1x a week for 3 months
- diagnosis is not weight dependent
