A marked fear or anxiety about a specific object or situation
- phobia almost always provokes immediate fear or anxiety
- actively avoided
- fear or anxiety is out of proportion to the actual danger
- fear, anxiety or avoidance last for 6 months
Specific Phobia
A fear of social situations; exposure to possible scrutiny by others, are avoided or endured with intense anxiety, out of proportion to actual threat
Persist for 6 months or more
Social Anxiety
Has recurrent unexpected panic attacks; can occur from a calm or anxious state
-palpatations, sweating, trembling or shaking, shortness of breath, feeling of choking, chest pain or discomfort, nausea, feeling dizzy or unsteady, chills or heat sensations, numbness, feelings of unreality (derealization), fear of going crazy, fear of dying.
At least 1 of the attacks has been followed by; fear or concern of having another attack; change in behavior related to attack
Panic Disorder
an abrupt surge of intense fear or intense discomfort that reaches a peak within minutes
Panic attack
A. Excessive anxiety or worry for at least 6 months
B. Individual finds it difficult to control worry
C. 3 or more of symptoms for past 6 months: restlessness or feeling keyed up; being easily fatigued; difficulty concentrating; irritability; muscle tension; sleep disturbance
