National Transportation Safety Board - NTSB
An independent agency, the NTSB is the arm of the govt responsible to Congress. It is made up of both parties and remains non-partisan. The mission of the NTSB is to conduct transportation investigations of accidents, and other safety problems. It formulates safety improvements, recommendations and develops national transportation policies and programs conducive to the provision of fast, safe and efficient convenient transportation.
Department of Transportation - DOT
Headed by the Secretary of Transportation (appointed by the President), the DOT’s mission is to assure the coordinated effective administration of the transportation programs of the U.S Government.
Federal Aviation Administration - FAA
The FAA is the operational safety branch under the DOT, controlling all aviation activities.
Transportation Security Administration - TSA
An administration of the Department of Transportation devoted to the regulation of security measures for all modes of transportation. It is under the jurisdiction of the DOT.
