What is the preflight check
A
- A319/320/321 ensure the red emergency PULL tab is intact.
- A320 two securing wire gasps securing the release latches must be present

Locate/define the ELT & and it’s use
A
The emergency locator transmitter is used to alert rescuers to a downed A/Cs location.

How long does the ELT last once activated
A
The ELT will transmit for approx 50 hours

How do you activate the A319/321 ELT in a salt water ditching
A
- unwind the lanyard and tie to the raft
- place the ELT in the water and within thirty seconds the antenna will extend
- the ELT will automatically activate

What additional steps must be taken to activate the A319/321 ELT on land or in fresh water
A
- unroll plastic bag and remove pouch of salt
- mix pouch of salt and 1/2 bag of non-flammable liquid (water)
- slowly insert the lower end of ELT into bag of mixed salt solution
- ensure the solution covers the two cent holes on the side of the ELT at all times

How is the A320 ELT different
A
- the unit is powered by a lithium battery and does not require water to activate
- there is a rotary switch for manual activation and an LED light for “XMT” and extend antenna for manual activation.

How do you stop the ELT from transmitting
A
- remove the unit from water and turn it upside down (A319/321)
- turn the rotary switch to off (A320)
