What is the difference between immigrate and emigrate?
Emigration is the departure of people from an area or country to live elsewhere. Immigration is the arrival of people into an area or country to live.

The underground railroad was a secret network that was used to help slaves run away.
What is industrialization?
Industrialization is to develop industries, especially manufacturing industries.
What is reciprocity?
Reciprocity is the exchange of privileges or favors as a basis for relations between two countries.
What is manifest destiny?
Manifest destiny is the belief that the United States had a duty to take over the land of North America.
Who is John A. MacDonald?
John A. Macdonald was a lawyer from Kingston who had gained a reputation for fairness and political skill.
Why/how did the colonies come together?
The colonies needed to earn more money from the sale of resource products from their farms, oceans, mines, and forests. This was hard because it was difficult to trade with each other when each colony had different currency and rules. People were worried about being taken from the United States.
What does the word federal mean?
Federal means relating to a system that has a central government as well as provincial or state governments.

A coalition is a group of people, often political opponents, who agree to work together for a common goal.

Louis Riel became the leader of the Métis in Red River. He was well educated, religious, and a good speaker.

The Immigration Act of 1869 was the first of several acts passed to manage the flow of immigrants to Canada. Its main purpose was to keep people with contagious diseases out of the country.

Three factors caused the difficulties in building the Canadian Pacific Railroad were rock, muskeg, and the Rocky Mountains in the West.
