Verbal paraphasia
Substitution of target word for another word, not semantically or phonologically related.
Semantic paraphasia
Substitution of target word with a semantically related word e.g. cat for dog.
Phonemic paraphasia
Substitution of one or few sounds but still maintaining half the phonemes of the intended word. e.g. cake- take
Neologism
series of sounds that don’t make reak word, less than half the intended phonemes of the intended word e.g. cake-brot.
Jargon
foreign language, all neologisms or repetitive sounds.
Perseveration
Persistence with previous response
Circumlocution
Talking around the word.
Recurrent utterance
automatic production of particular syllable, word or phrase, regardless of what the patient thinks or intends to say.
