Favorite - Music Flashcards
Describe a song or piece of music that you like.
what type of music it is
* theme music from the Interstellar film * soundtrack * a modern epic orchestral symphonic piece of music * no lyrics
I’m going to describe one of my favorite pieces of music, which is the theme music from the Interstellar film composed by Hans Zimmer. This soundtrack’s name is “Mountains” and is a modern epic orchestral symphonic piece of music; there’s no singing, there are no lyrics, it’s just piano, electric guitar, different woodwind instruments and pipe organ which all are going to convey the sense of outer space.
where you first heard it
• I was immediately struck by the music
• impressive
• it gets you excited
So the first time I heard this soundtrack was probably when I watched this epic movie for the first time, and I was immediately struck by the music, how impressive it was and how it gets you excited when it matched with several thrilling scenes.
who performs it
* conceptualize and compose the score * in parallel with
As I said Hans Zimmer is the composer of this soundtrack, and It took two years for him to conceptualize and compose the score, in parallel with the scripting and shooting of the film. Based on an article I read about it, and as far as I remember the original song was performed by an orchestra in which there were a group of woodwind players, a music conductor and Zimmer himself who played the solo piano.
and explain why you like this song or piece of music.
* expectation it creates * climactic scenes * on the edge of your seat * the first few notes of this soundtrack * expectation of adventure, mystery, excitement * epic, dramatic and powerful
The reason I like this music then, is because of the expectation it creates at the climactic scenes of the film and make you to be on the edge of your seat. You know that you’re about to watch something special when you hear the first few notes of this soundtrack, of the theme music. It creates an expectation of adventure, mystery, excitement; I think it’s really epic, dramatic and powerful. Zimmer used pipe organ, to evoke all those isolating, dark, madness-inducing feelings. This is what space sounds like, and it’s as simple and terrifying as that.
