What is Fascism?
Extreme militaristic nationalism. A belief in natural social hierarchy and the rule of elites and the desire to create a people’s community, in which individual interests would be subordinated to the good of the nation.
What is Nazism?
A form of socialism featuring racism and expansionism and obedience to a strong leader. Although it’s similar to fascism, Nazism is far more extreme both in its ideas and practice.
What is totalitarianism?
Totalitarianism is a form of government in which the government controls all aspects of society. Totalitarian governments are usually headed by a leader who relies on charisma and brute force to control the activity of the citizenry.
Features of Fascism
Xenophobia (dislike of other ethnicity)
Expansionism - constant urge to reach out and rightfully claim what belongs to the fascist group.
Propaganda- heavy reliance on public propaganda to promote their group’s superiority, while also demonizing every other group.
inequality- promoting more freedom for men and controlling women.
Use of the most common religion to manipulate public opinion.
Features of Nazism
Totalitarianism (no freedom of speech and control over media)
One party state (only national socialist party legally recognized)
Ethnicity cleansing (Aryan race - eliminate Jews)
Eliminating all oppositions (death or concentration camps)
Propaganda (promoted hate for Jews through media)
Difference between Nazism and Fascism
The main difference was that Nazism focused more on race and ethnicity, while Fascism focused more on their state and did not reject other ethnicity as long as they understood the language of the “superior nation”>
