Fascia Of Upper Extremity Flashcards
What is fascia?
A connective tissue that is woven around every muscle bone, nerve, artery, vein and all of the internal organs.
Deep fascia of the shoulder
Splits around each muscle it encounters
Unite again into single sheath on other side of that structure
Attached to various boney prominences and in certain regions gives attachment to some of the fibres of the underlying muscles
Clavicopectoral fascia
Encases omohyoid, then clavicle, then splits to enclose subclavius muscle
Splits inferiorly to enclose pec minor
Continues inferior as suspensory ligament of axilla (raises skin of armpit when clavicle is elevated)
Pierced by:
Cephalic vein
Thoracoacrominal artery
Lymph vessels from intraclavicular nodes
Lateral pectoral nerve
Fascial anterior compartment of the upper arm
Muscles: biceps, coracobrachialis, brachialis
Arteries: brachial artery
Innervation: musculocutaneous
Structures passing through:
-musculocutaneous, median, ulnar, and radial nerves
-brachial artery
- basilic vein
Fascial posterior compartment of the upper arm
Muscles: three heads of triceps
Arteries: profunda brachial artery and ulnar collateral artery
Innervation: radial nerve
Structures passing through:
-ulnar and radial nerves
Anterior compartment of forearm
Muscles:
Superficial= FCU, PL, FCR, PT
Intermediate= FDS
Deep= FDP, FPL, PQ
Arteries: Ulnar, ulnar recurrent, radial, and anterior interosseus arteries
Innervation: All are median nerve and its branches except FCU and medial part of FDP which are Ulnar nerve
Lateral compartment of the forearm
May be considered part of posterior compartment
Muscles: Brachioradialis and ECRL
Arteries: radial and radial recurrent arteries
Innervation: Radial nerve
Posterior compartment of the forearm
Muscles:
Superficial: ECRB, ED, EDM, ECU and anconeus
Deep: Supinator, abductor PL, EPB, EPL, EI
Arteries: posterior interosseous and interosseous recurrent arteries
Innervation: deep radial nerve
