Fanon Flashcards
In “Capitalist Countries”
There is exploitation and oppression, but it is concealed behind images of unity and equality.
Differences are quantitative: how much do you have?
In “the Colonies”
Exploitation and oppression are out in the open as legal violence used by the settlers to control the natives.
Differences are qualitative: what are you? (If you are native, it doesn’t matter how much you have, you are still inferior under the law)
Natives in the process of decolonization want to kill the settler and take their place!
It is a rear-guard action, a distraction, while the retreating settlers move their possessions out of the country.
It will lead to the creation of an ‘economic zone’ in which the settlers can continue to exploit the natives in the community.
