The appointment of FLO will?
A
- Smooth the process and provide the vital conduit between the family and the police investigation.

The primary role of the FLO is?
A
An investigator not a support person, however must still offer to facilitate and coordinate support that addresses the needs of the family.

The term family includes:
A
- partners
- parents
- children
- siblings
- guardians
- whanau and others close to the victim
- ‘chosen’ family

Before meeting the family the FLO must: (LWWWFFF)
A
- liaise with OC Investigations regarding the parameters of information to be share or held back from the family
- what contact the family has had with police since incident/death
- What information has been given to the family
- What information is already Public
- familiarise with Intel, previous police interactions
- familiarize with Enquiry
- familiarise with information concerning family including:
*family dynamics
*cultural/lifestyle considerations
*religious beliefs
*language/disability

Prior to court the FLO should? (WLCD)
A
- WITNESS availability and any special requirements
- show the LAYOUT or court and the procedures
- potential CONFLICT between Defence and the crown
- advise DISTRESSING nature of specific evidence

When an Offender is arrested the FLO must:
A
- Inform family rights to register on VNR
- Ascertain views on accused being released on bail
- inform family of charges, court dates and bail release conditions.

Post conviction contact
A
- inform rights under S3 Victims rights 2002, including VNR
- participate in the process to decide whether an Offender is granted parole
- police must advise of the offenders release from Prison
